A grassroots mass based Socio-cultural organization of the Igbo race, Igbo National Council, INC has called on the Houses of Assembly in the South East to make a law, recognizing Igbo language as a compulsory subject in the Primary and Secondary schools in the Southeast region. The body said that such legal backing would also help in the reengineering of Igbo value system.

Speaking at Abia Hotels, Umuahia during the 24th National Working Committee meeting of INC Worldwide, the President of the organization, Comrade Chilos Godsent also said that such a law should also be binding on the criteria of appointing and engaging a civil servant, who must have a credit in the subject before being absorbed into the Civil Service System in the region.

Also in his address, the INC Abia State Chairman, Stanley Chima (Ph.D) disclosed plans of the organization to assist the government in educating the youths on the dangers associated in engaging in social vices. According to him, the core value of the organization is to seek the right kind of leadership at any level of Igbo Government Structure that will help to influence, inspire, rally, and direct others to pursue a common goal, while maintaining patriotism and commitment to Nigeria. His words, “Igbo National Council was registered in 2012. It is a worldwide project, with members across the globe.

It is not Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, neither is it a pro nor anti Biafra group. It is a grassroots mass-based socio-cultural organization of the Igbo race, committed to the re-engineering of the Igbo value system. It is aimed at re-engineering the political and economic culture of the Igbo man and to strengthen the capacity of our people to engage with the political actors in Nigeria, for effective and active inclusiveness of the Igbo race”.

In their respective speeches, the traditional ruler of Oriendu autonomous community, Ohuhu clan in Umuahia North L.G.A, HRM Eze Pastor Philip Ajomiwe, and HRH Eze Ben Oriaku, the traditional ruler of Umudikeukwu autonomous community, Oboro clan in Ikwuano L.G.A, of Abia State, described the Igbos as special specie, carefully chosen and deposited by God in the African soil and also widely respected because of their intellectual prowess and dexterity. They maintained that the perceived Igbo backwardness was self-caused and lauded the INC for coming out boldly to reclaim and rebuild the region; and called on all Igbos to support the organization as their vision and mission is for the good of the Igbos.
