Definition: Physics is a branch of science that deals with energy. Example; chemical energy, mechanical energy, solar energy, nuclear energy, electrical energy, thermal/heat energy. In the study of virtually all science-related courses, physics is paramount. These courses include medicine and surgery, science laboratory technology, gynaecology, pathology, dermatology,Measurements in physics

A new system of units which has been adopted for all branches of physics is known as the System Internationale (S.I) units. It is based on;The Metre as the unit of length.
The Kilogramme as the unit of mass.
The Second as the unit of time.
The Ampere as the unit of electric current.
Degrees kelvin as the unit of temperature.
The Newton as the unit of force.
The Joule as the unit of energy.

Measurement of length
The unit of length is the metre and can be measured with
– A metre-rule.                                                                                                                                                      – Half-metre rule
– Tape measure
– Micrometre screw gauge
– Vernier callipers
– Engineers callipers

For the measurement of length of materials like the thickness of a piece of metal, diameter of wire, diameter of a round object whose lengths cannot be measured directly with the metre-rule.
The metre-rule is calibrated in millimetres and centimetres. One metre is equal to 1 metre i.e. 100cm.
