Govt College Old Boys Association holds Mentorship Conference for students, doles out Cash prizes.

The 2000- 2006 set Old Boys Association of Government Secondary school Owerri Organised a 3rd phase of its mentorship program for the students of the college.

Speaking at the epoch making event, the National president of the set, Mr chukwemeka Adrain Nwokeji urged the students to maintain academic excellence and pay attention to their studies to achieve success.

He disclosed that the essence of the mentorship conference is to nurture the students so that they will be responsible products of the school and collaborate with the Old Boys to impact on the college after graduation.

He Further disclosed that the program also encompasses a cash prize award for outstanding students who performed well in their academics and also to committed and dedicated Teachers as a way of encouraging their efforts.

The National president promised to sustain to sustain the program and urged the students to maintain good character.

He disclosed that he is impressed with the developmental strides of the school with has mapped out various activities.

The president who also Organised a football competition for the students said, it’s a way of sourcing out young talents from them and also equip them for their chosen career. He promised that the football competition will be a yearly event.

Also speaking, the National secretary of the Association, Comrade Ifeanyi Igboanusi said the conference has afforded them the opportunity to groom the students on how to become successful in life and also reward some who performed well in their academics.

He stated that the whole idea is a way of giving back to their Alma mater.

He also seized the opportunity to seek for the government’s support to the school in terms of rebuilding the delapidated classroom blocks and improve on the general standard of the school.

The chairman of the Organizing committee, Mr Adesua Eugene Nwachukwu said the mentorship program will be sustained which will guide the students into something meaningful for their lives. He disclosed that the students were trained on Entrepreneurship, Academics and ICT. He said there is the need to also equip the students with other skills that can sustain them aside academic.

The principals of both the senior and the junior school, Mr Nwanya Darlington and Mr Ezike Chukwemeka expressed gratitude to the old boys for their efforts toward repositioning the school and thanked them for their efforts as they disclosed that the week long program has left much foot prints in the history of the school and urged them not to relent in their efforts.

They also called on the other Old boys Associations of other schools to emulate the OGSS Old boys as they has made much impacts on the school.

Speaking to newsmen, One of the students, Ekwunife Solomon thanked the 2000- 2006 set for Organizing the programme as he maintained that the event was a memorable one because according to him, he has not experienced such event since he joined the school. He further prayed for more blessing for the Old boys.

Highlights of the event was quizz and debate competition, cash award presentation to best performed students and Teachers, a Football march with a cash reward of 300,000, 200,000 and 100,000 respectively to the First, Second and third winners respectively amongst others.
