To encourage science and technological innovation for improved economic development and social security in Imo State, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. John Cliff Chike, has assured that the Shared Prosperity led government is willing to revive technical education in the state with much emphasis on Government Technical College Owerri (GTC).

Chike disclosed this cheering tiding when he addressed The Old Boys of Government Technical College Owerri during its Grand Inauguration Ceremony held on Tuesday at the college premises.

The Commissioner said because Governor Hope Uzodimma values education just as humanity the 3r government is developing templates to recover technical colleges in Imo State with GTC Owerri being number one, nothing that the recently held Science, Technology and Innovation Expo organized by Ministry of Science and Technology where Imo State born students showcased their innovative ingenuity and products is a sign that the government is effectively encouraging technical skills.

According to him, “the 3r led government has good plans for technical education in the state and soon something tangible will happen in that regard. GTC Owerri will be the first school to start with. The government is also doing well on infrastructure particularly on road construction and security. The policy of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Recovery is to redeem Imo State. Hence I thank the Old Boys Association of GTC Owerri for the reunion and effort at encouraging technical education in the state. The Governor cannot afford to disappoint the people because he is development driven”.

Eulogizing the Shared Prosperity Government for its giant strides in advancing technical education in Imo State, one of the outstanding Old Boys of GTC Owerri, Rev. Dr. Emma Sylva, posited that the Old Boys had set up a committee that will approach the World Bank to come in and assist in reviving the college they built many years ago to strengthen science, technology and innovation among young people who he added would be employers of labour and creators of wealth for enhanced economic prosperity, comfort and social security.
