Abia State government has declared holidays in all primary and post-primary schools in the State for 2023 general elections.
The government explained that the development was to enable teachers, workers in schools and all eligible students to go home and vote for their preferred candidates during the elections.
The first holidays according the State government will run from Thursday, 23rd February, 2023 to Wednesday, 1st March 2023 for the Presidential and National Assembly Elections.
The Second holiday stream will rub from Thursday, 9th March, to Wednesday, 15th March 2023 for the Governorship and State House of Assembly polls.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Post-Basic Education, Sir I. C. Mark made available to Journalists.
The State government directed that all schools in the State, both public and private should strictly comply with the order.
The election holidays has however, generated mixed reactions in the State as many teachers, students, and other staff of schools applauded the initiative while some private schools’ proprietors said the holidays were too long and may extend their academic calendar.
They promised to abide by the directive.
