Abia State Ministry of Education has closed down Emerald Schools located , located at Crystal park avenue, off Port Harcourt road in Aba South LGA.

Also, the operational approval of the Emerald group of schools has withdrawn from the school, by the State government.

The closure of the school was announced on Tuesday, the first day of the ongoing school inspection and evaluation exercise around Abia State.

Two weeks ago, a 3-year-old child, Master David Jacob Etim died in the school, after falling down from a storey-building.

Though the Abia State Police Command in confirming the death of the child, told News Echo that investigations had began at State Criminal Investigation Department in the matter, adding that the authorities of Emerald schools were being quarried.

But on Tuesday, Abia State ministry of education released a statement slamming the school closed, while directing parents whose children are studying in the embattled school, to withdraw them.

The ministry ‘s statement read in part:

“This is as a result of the Ministry’s findings which showed that the said school was operating below the stipulated standards set for the operation of private schools in the State, a situation which led to the unfortunate death of a pupil. “Parents/ guardians whose children/wards attend the school, are advised to withdraw them without further delay. “While the Ministry regrets any Inconvenience this may cause parents, it will continue to shoulder its responsibility of upholding the welfare and safety of Abia children as a top priority. “Any illegal attemp by any individual or group to reopen the school will attract the full wrath of the government.
Please be properly guided”, the Commissioner warned.
