The member representing Aboh Mbaise/Ngor-Okpala Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Bede Ekeh has given leadership of the Nigerian Army a 14-day ultimatum to get to the root of the gruesome murder of a Germany based Imo citizen by men of the Nigerian military.

Ekeh made this known while briefing a select group of journalists in Owerri, Imo State capital.

“I condemned Gulack’s killing and still condemn it. But the issue is, go after the killers and leave my people alone. Go after those who are destroying government property and leave innocent people alone”.

He noted that people are being threatened and scared to go about their normal businesses as result of the various extra judicial killings by the army and police in the state. He wondered whether the rules of engagement for the security agencies in times like this has changed.

“The question is, up till now, has the killers of Gulak been arrested and prosecuted. The police told us they were killed, while the government came out to say it was politically motivated. Which one do we take, the report of the police or that of the government. When you begin to have conflicting report from the Chief Security Officer of the state and security agents themselves, you know there is a problem.

He advocated for electoral reform as the only panacea for bad governace in Nigeria, condemning a situation where electoral results are manipulated and manufactured by those in position of authority and berated a situation where amendments made to the electoral act many years ago have suffered at the stage of presenting it to the president for his assent.

“Most politicians do not want it, because they also believe in writing results. All their plans for 2023 is also to write results. ‘Nigerians we should not keep quiet because power belongs to the people”.

The Reps member used the opportunity to enumerate some of his achievements which includes; building and rehabilitation of schools, building and rehabilitation of health centres, building and rehabilitation of markets,

agricultural empowerment (Giving out improved agricultural seeds). which he said were in line with the needs and demands of his constituents.
