A total of 15 persons were arrested by men of Abia State Police Command for alleged armed robbery, kidnapping and cultism in the State. The suspects were picked in different parts of the State like Umuahia, Ohafia, Aba and Arochukwu areas.
The arrests were made before the redeployment of the immediate past Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Bala. According to the former CP, the arrests were carried out by men of the Rapid Response Squard (RRS) and Anti-kidnapping Squard of the Command, even as he said that the arrested suspects had allegedly confessed to various crimes. His words: “The Command has dealt with the hoodlums in Aba, Ohafia, Arochukwu and Umuahia.
The Rapid Response Squard (RRS) arrested 10 suspected armed robbers and cultists in Aba and Arochukwu members of Black Axe and Eiye confraternity. “The Command had imbibed the Community Policing and how to have good relationship with the public including Vigilance groups and the hunters. This has enabled them to fish out hoodlums out of the State “.
The immediate past CP added that the Anti-kidnapping Squard also nabbed some kidnappers in their hideouts in Aba, explaining that the arrested suspects had also confessed to their crimes. CP Bala further noted that Aba-Port Harcourt express way roads that were placed under constant patrol during his stay as the CP, said that the arrested hoodlums would be charged to Court as after thorough investigations. Meanwhile, the new Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Kenechukwu Onwuemelie has taken over as the new Police boss in Abia.
He took over from CP Mustapha Bala who has been redeployed by the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba. The handover of office was performed at the Police headquarters, Bende road Umuahia. In his address to the officers and men of the Command, the new CP tasked them on professionalism and respect to rules and regulations guiding their duties. Onwuemelie made it clear that no lawbreaker would escape the long hands of the law, weather he is a civilian or a Policeman.
