The police in Anambra State have launched a manhunt for the killers of Chief Joe Mohale, the Nanka Ward Chairman of the Young Progressive Party (YPP). Mohale was assassinated on November 11, by yet to be identified gunmen after hosting the party’s House of Representatives candidate, Hon Chinwe Nnabuife, in a yet to be scheduled rerun election.

Spokesperson for Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Commissioner of Police (CP), Aderemi Adeoye, has condemned the killing in strongest terms, describing the killers as cowards who have murdered sleep.

He said: “The CP has vowed that the command will hunt down and bring to justice the killers of the Nanka Ward Chairman of Young Progressive Party (YPP). “They might think they have committed a perfect crime and that they would get away with it but they delude themselves. “The Police are already working on vital clues to unmask the perpetrators.

“The command wishes to re-assure all law abiding citizens especially in Nanka not to be afraid but to join hands with the police in bringing the murderers and their sponsor to justice.” In another development, the command has refuted claims that Umunze in Orumba South Local Council has become a ‘No- Go-Area’ and headquarters of The Eastern Security Network (ESN), the paramilitary organisation of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Last month, police operatives smashed insurgents’ camp at Ogbunka near Umunze, rescuing three kidnapped victims, including a Priest, recovered nine stolen Vehicles and three Pump Action Guns (PAGs). Police also arrested three of the criminals, wondering how anyone should claim that the police described Umunze as a no-go area.
