Police operatives in Ogidi Division, Anambra state, have arrested the Commander of Ojoto Community Vigilante Group and two others for allegedly kidnapping and killing a tricycle operator, Oluchukwu Onah. Onah, a 25-year-old commercial tricycle operator from Ovoko community, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu state, resident in Oba Idemili-South, Anambra state, was declared missing on May 28, 2023, when he failed to return after going out for the day’s business.

It was gathered that his neighbour in Oba had raised the alarm over his disappearance and subsequently reported to the police. Reports said it was the owner of the tricycle for whom Oluchukwu was riding under hire purchase that engaged the services of security tracker that eventually yielded positive results leading to the arrest of the man who was in possession of the vehicle used by the deceased.

The original owner of the tricycle (name withheld) said, “when the man who is in possession of the vehicle was interrogated, he confessed to have bought the tricycle from Ojoto community vigilante. “When the police arrested the vigilante operative that sold the vehicle to him, the suspect eventually mentioned the Commander of the Vigilante Group, as the one who masterminded the abduction and subsequent killing of Onuchukwu and allegedly threw his corpse to Mmili John Ojoto, a popular river at the suburb of the community.”

The deceased’s father, Emmanuel Onah who raised the alarm over the brutal murder of his son, had called for justice over the heinous act. He further lamented that the perpetrators had refused to disclosed where they buried his son.

While calling for a thorough investigation, he appealed to the police for diligent prosecution and recovery of his son’s body. But when contacted, the Anambra state police Spokesman, Ikenga Tochi, said he had yet to be briefed on the issue. He promised to reach out to the police division concerned for a proper update.
