The Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji has raised an alarm that some criminal elements are impersonating his name on social media, particularly, the social media.
To achieve their evil designs, the Speaker said the fraudsters opened some bank accounts through which they direct their intended victims to deposit money in return for some federal jobs.
The Speaker, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Jude Ndukwe, disclosed that the suspected fraudsters had been luring unsuspecting members of the public with offers of non-existing jobs in some federal agencies including the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and defrauds them of their hard-earned money in the process.
The CSP listed some banks allegedly being used by the criminal elements in defrauding the innocent members of the public to include FCMB and Fidelity Bank.
The CPS made it clear that the Abia Speaker does not own or operate any Facebook account and therefore, could not have contacted anybody via the app for whatever purpose.
“While the fraudulent activities of these criminal elements have been reported to the relevant authorities for appropriate action, and also to the Management of FCMB to shut down the fraudulent account in order to safeguard members of the public, citizens are by this announcement strongly advised not to respond to any message on the social media purportedly coming from the Speaker nor fall prey to the antics of the impersonators”, the message warned.
It would be recalled that the Speaker had in August, 2021, raised alarm that a group of people were impersonating him on Facebook, even when he did not have or operate any Facebook page.
