Former Federal lawmaker for Orsu/Orlu/Oru-east federal constituency, Rt Hon Jerry Alagbaoso, had on Tuesday night escaped attack by gunmen who invaded his country home in Ihittennasaa in Orsu LGA of Imo state.
The arsonists according to reports thought the lawmaker would be around as he visited home but were disappointed as search for him but couldn’t find him and set his residence ablaze.
Alagbaoso, with his supporters was said to have defected from PDP to APC a month ago and pledge to support the APC led administration in the state. A community source said that the hoodlums were after his life but searched in vain for him and ended up setting his house on fire. “It happened on Tuesday night. They thought Asiwaju was home because he has been frequenting the village to campaign for the forthcoming Imo governorship election.
“But after searching for him in vain, they set his house ablaze. The community as I speak is terrified and may have fled in fear.” An indigene of Ihittenasaa community who spoke in the condition of anonymity told the press that the attackers invaded the compound through the back fence.
He disclosed further that the security men incharge of the residence were tied to pave way for their nefarious act.
The Director General of Jerry Alagbaoso Campaign Organization, Onamma Olemgbe, confirmed the incident, describing it as most unwarranted. He said the community including Amaruru, Amannachi, Amazu, Awo-idemili, Eziawa, Umuhu-Okabia, Orsu-ihitteukwo, Okwu Ufuruaku, Okwu Amaraihe and Okwu Etiti put together, had been under siege by unknown gunmen in recent times.
Similarly, a Traditional Ruler in same Orsu LGA was reported to have lost his palace to the cold hands of arsonists. The monarch, whose name was given as His Royal Highness Eze Felix Onyejurunwa, of Umuhu-Okabia Autonomous Community, according to reports, has severally had his house attacked by gunmen.
Reacting to the two incidents, the Imo state police Spokesman, Henry Okoye, said the police has launched a hunt for the perpetrators. He said, “the Commissioner of Police condemned this dastardly act in totality and has ordered an intensive manhunt for the arsonist.
More so, Optimal Security Operatives of the Joint task force have been deployed in Orsu to prevent similar occurrence. “We will apprehend the hoodlums that are involved and they will be made to face the full wrath of the law, that we can assure you.”
