Two communities in Anambra take preventive measures to avert boundary disputes,

Two communities have taken preventive steps aimed at securing everlasting boundary peace by asking the state government to place permanent monuments at the agreed boundaries between Enugwu-Agidi and Ukpo communities.

News Echo reports that both communities through their spokespersons during the meeting, affirmed that there is no rancor or misunderstanding of any sort between them, adding that they understand themselves and also inter-marry a lot. Enugu-Agidi and Ukpo communities made this declaration on Tuesday December 5th, 2023 at the Deputy Governor’s Conference Room where they approached the state government to officially institute and gazette permanent boundary delineation between them.

The representatives of both communities were their Traditional Rulers, President Generals and other selected respected Elders of their respective Communities. In their separate speeches, The traditional Ruler of Ukpo Community, Igwe Robert Eze represented by Ideh N’ukpo Ichie Okwuchukwu Ezeaku maintained that Ukpo and Enugwu-Agidi community have been co-habiting peacefully together without rancor for immemorable decades, which he further affirmed, is one of the the reason both community inter-marry themselves.

On his part, the traditional Ruler of Enugwu-Agidi, Igwe Mike Okeke-Uche towed similar path, affirming that Ukpo and Enugwu-Agidi have no boundaries misunderstanding but have decided to take some preventive steps to avert future boundary conflicts especially now there are palpable urban-rural development. Responding, the state’s Deputy Governor and Chairman, state Boundary committee , Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, commended the traditional rulers of both communities, thier President Generals and other selected elders present at the meeting, for being timely precautional in their preventive approaches.

Dr. Ibezim narrated to audience of both communities, state government’s intentional moves to resolve all boundary headaches across the 177 communities of the state which he hinted was to smoothen the dividends of Governor Soludo revolutions in governance, evenly across the state. He assured that “Solution Boundary for peace” initiative by Governor Soludo, across the state will save Enugwu-Agidi and Ukpo communities’ money, lives, and encumbrances, urging to cooperate with the state government to institute the lasting peace.
