There are always two sides to every coin. I believe strongly in the law of duality. From a refuse dump shunned by many some folks still find some valuables. Similarly, some good can come out from a crisis. But for the EndSARS protest which was eventually hijacked by hoodlums we may not have known that states were hoarding palliative provided the populace.
Lagos, Osun, Cross river, Ekiti had their warehouses looted by hoodlums and the palliative carted away. Some of the food items example garri, rice were suspected to have caked and turned bad. Governor Ben Ayade was heard claiming that the items were received two weeks ago, and its distribution was ongoing. Fayemi of Ekiti State claimed his own was fertilizer not garri.
Whatever may be the defence it cannot be justified that food items would be allowed to waste in this country where people find it difficult to eat even a meal a day. It is difficult to convince many. Nigerians are not fools even though they have allowed themselves to be fooled by their leaders. If further check is conducted on other states more discoveries can be made. It is quite sad.
What could possibly be the reason for hoarding these items? Were they storing them for 2023 election? Obviously, it must be for political purposes. If the governments cared for its citizens these things cannot be in the store a day longer than necessary. If it is delayed for logistic reasons as Ayade may imply in his defence it explains enough the red-tapism and bureaucracy that characterize our administration.
It is exemplary of the speed with which issues affecting the citizens are handled. The leaders play God, looms larger than life and takes delight in the suffering of the citizens who they use the items to secure their loyalty. It is quite sad.
