Imo state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has showered encomiums on the state’s commissioner for police, Mr Abutu Yaro for deploring a tactics that helped drove away criminals and murderers from the state.

Governor Uzodimma made this remark during an official condolence visit he paid to the headquarters of the Nigerian Police Force in Imo State.

He assured officers and men of the command of the full support of the state government to enable them perform their duties creditably and prayed for God’s protection on the police officers in the line of their duties.

“I want to assure you that government will not let you do this work alone. Government will continue to partner with the Nigerian Police to ensure that our people will sleep with their two eyes closed.

He used the opportunity to extend condolences to the families of officers who lost their lives in the hands of the marauding gunmen, revealing that government was putting together, a package to adequately compensate the families.

The governor promised that Imo State Government will set up an insurance policy to take care of liabilities of police men who lost their lives in line of duties in the state.

He reminded police officers that they were among the group and individuals licensed to carry guns. “So when we hear that someone who is not licensed to carry gun, came with gun to kill a man who is licensed to carry gun, we marvel”.

Responding, the state police Commissioner, Abutu Yaro, described the visit as epochal, pointing out that it was the first time since 40 years history of the state police command that the chief executive office was paying an official condolence visit to officers and men of the command.

He said the visit will lift the morale of officers of the command to the highest level.
“In line with the mantra of the security architecture of the state, we are determined to bring back Imo to its prime place in peace and security.

We have done the best we could, in conjunction with other services and in conjunction with the apparatus of governance in the state to restore public order.

Uzodimma thanked the government and people of Imo State for providing an environment conducive for policing
