Muslims in Abia have celebrated this year’s Eid El Kabir festival in the State with a call for Nigerians to be patient with the new administrations of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Alex Otti. This is even as they have lamented that this year’s celebration was hampered by poor economy of the country.

Speaking with Journalists during Eid prayer at Umuahia township stadium, some of the Muslims said they could not travel to their home States for the festival because of high cost of transport. Apart from this, most of the Islamic worshippers said they could not afford to buy Rams for the celebration as the animal was sold at exorbitant prices.

The Muslims who included Usmani El Sud, Ibrahim Sanusi and Isiaku Mohammad said their only consolation is being alive among the living to celebrate the greatest Islamic event. Meanwhile, the Sarikin Hausawa of Abia State, Alhaji Yaro Danladi has commended the sustaining peace between the Muslim community in Abia State and those of other religions.

Danladi who appealed for peace and understanding among Nigerians of different tribe, said his people would give all necessary support to Governor Alex Otti. Earlier in his Eid El Kabir message, the Chief Imam of Umuahia Central Mosque, Mallam Usman Aminu tasked Muslims on obedience to Allah’s will as exemplified by Abraham who agreed to sacrifice his son for God.

The Chief Imam also admonished the Muslims on peace, sacrifice and care for the needy around them. The event climaxed with the slaughtering of Ram at the prayer ground by the Muslims. A visit to Eket and Lagos streets, which is a predominant Northern residential and business area of Umuahia by the correspondent showed that Muslims were enjoying their festival with their loved ones.
