The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Anambra State Governor on General Hospital, Mrs. Nwamaka Arinze Okoh has applauded the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) for donating solar power facilities to Umueri General Hospital.
She made the commendation during her routine monthly monitoring visits to General Hospitals in the state, aimed at finding out challenges hindering service delivery and performance.

The SSA expressed her joy at the gesture, noting that in the past, the hospitals operated in darkness whenever its electricity generating sets were not in good order.
“I am so happy to see that the problem of electricity is now solved at the hospital and people can visit the facility at night time. “I am also glad to hear that nurses can now sleep in the hospital without fear of being molested or raped”.

“It is also a welcome development to see the hospital lit up at night while patients are cared for properly,’’ Arinze said.
She commended the present administration of Gov. Willie Obiano for the good policies and initiatives in implementing ASHIA schemes in the state.
She also praised the contributions of the traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Benneth Izuchukwu Emeka for ensuring that his people have access to quality healthcare services.

Okoh encouraged the Chief Medical Director of the hospital to put more efforts and carry the staff members along over their well being and those in the community and environs.

Chief Medical Director, Umueri General Hospital, Dr. Dozie Udeolisa noted that there had been great improvements since he assumed duty. “When I came to this hospital, I was told that the hospital did not have light and security. There was no night shift because of insecurity and other problems with light”.
“We are glad that ASHIA and other groups came to our rescue and provided solar energy. When you visit the hospital at night, it looks so beautiful because of electricity.’’ He added that accommodation was now provided for the nurses so that they could stay at night and attend to patients.
