To ensure healthy and nutritious living, a non-governmental organization, Foundation for Livelihood Advancement (FLA) has harped on the need to consume biofortified crops (maize, cassava and orange flesh sweet Potatoes-OFSP).

Speaking during her food, nutrition education and awareness programme that took place at Alaenyi Mgbidi Autonomous Community, Oru East LGA, the Director of Programmes, Elder Kenneth Amogu informed them of the need to ensure that their foods are nutritious, emphasizing that “you are what you eat” The biofortified crops have vitamin A that is required for good eye sight, proper brain development, and well being of the young and older ones.
He noted that all the biofortified crops can be planted within their immediate environment first for food and the then market sales, while encouraging the community members to eat nutritious foods and avoid the risk of getting sick and spending what they earn on drugs.
He hinted that eating nutritious foods will address a lot of health challenges that most people are faced with. Amogu who spoke during the free distribution of OBA Super 6 Hybrid Maize and Vitamin A cassava stems to participants, called on women who prepare foods to make sure it is balanced and nutritious, while the men were reminded to let the women have land to cultivate nutritious crops.
In his response, a community leader, Nze/Chief Evaristus Ekezie thanked the Foundation team for extending their “Nutritious Food for Healthy Life campaign” to their community and pledged to ensure that the good news gets to other members of the community.
The youth leader of the community, Comrade Ndubuaku Onyekachi Jonathan pleaded to the organization to extend the campaign to the youths, who according to him, needs to also feed well on nutritious foods to have well developed brain and mind that will make them perform better than what can be seen from our present leaders.
